Philosopher's and tech marketers ontology have different aims. Philosopher's ontology is critical and questioning.Tech marketing has colonised the word and drained it of any nuance. When a company publishes its "AI ontology" or describes the "ontology" "grounding" its knowledge graph, ontology has been quietly transformed into a closed, administered list of categories, a controlled vocabulary branded as philosophy.

I agree. But we have significant support both in government and in the tech world of people who take seriously what our students are learning in the Buffalo Applied Ontology program.
